The Royal Aeronautical Society Homepage

The Army Air Corps is a member of the Royal Aeronautical Society’s (RAeS) Associated Company Scheme (ACS). The benefits of the ACS membership are as follows:

Use of the Society’s facilities at 4 Hamilton Place for all members of the Corps, whether they are individual members of the Society in their own right or not. Facilities include a lounge, bar, careers information, Guidance Centre and a Library. It is worth noting that the Society does not expect those using the Society’s facilities to wear a suit. Smart casual dress is perfectly acceptable. Men and women are, of course, equally welcome.

Any member of the Corps wishing to join the Society as an individual member and whose application is countersigned by one of the Corps’ fellows will not have to pay the normal entry fee on election (currently £120 for Fellows and £47 for Members).

Preferential rates at Society conferences and free attendance at lectures.

A copy of Aerospace International and the Aeronautical Journal will be sent free of charge as a reference copy.

Participation in specialist groups concentrating on different areas of aeronautics.

ACS membership also brings less tangible benefits, not least opportunities to share information about the Corps with the significant body of civil aviation professionals as well as the opportunity to learn something about ‘wider aviation’ from the Society.

In making these arrangements, the Director Army Aviation has stressed that he does not anticipate a stampede from members of the Corps to join the Society. He does, however, believe that the Corps will benefit from the ACS membership, and if our association with the Society makes it easier for Corps members to join, then that is a bonus.
